🇨🇭Pilot. The strongest remaining claim is a test or pilot. That is not evidence of live production.
Basel-based institution owned by central banks. Two documented Ripple/XRPL intersections: (1) a 2023–2024 CPMI Cross-border Payments Interoperability and Extension (PIE) task-force seat for Ripple, not renewed on the public 2025-onwards roster; (2) September 2026 Working Paper 1374, a staff proof of concept that anchors cryptographic fingerprints of official SDMX statistics on the XRP Ledger. Neither is a BIS commercial Ripple relationship, XRP payments, or an endorsement of XRP as a bridge asset.

BIS Working Paper 1374 (2 September 2026), ‘Verifiable official statistics: a blockchain-based approach,’ presents a proof of concept implemented on the XRP Ledger: SDMX files are hashed, Merkle-aggregated, and a summary value is recorded on XRPL so a consumer can check origin and integrity. Underlying statistics stay off-chain.
Geographic basis: BIS Monetary and Economic Department, Basel. Prototype, not a production statistics service for member central banks. · Activity: Switzerland
Uncertainty: The landing page does not name DevNet versus mainnet; contemporaneous technical write-ups of this paper describe XRPL DevNet. The publication states the views are those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the views of the BIS or its member central banks. Not a payments, ODL, or RLUSD project.

Verifiable official statistics: a blockchain-based approach (BIS Working Papers No 1374)
Bank for International Settlements · published 2026-09-02 · checked 2026-09-09
BIS staff working paper presenting a proof of concept that hashes SDMX official-statistics files, aggregates the hashes into a Merkle root, and records a summary value on the XRP Ledger so a consumer can check origin and integrity. Authors: Mario Rusev, Rafael Schmidt, Edward Lambe, Christian Schmieder and Glenn Philip Tice. The page states the views are those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the views of the BIS or its member central banks.
Staff working paper / research prototype, not a BIS Executive commercial relationship with Ripple and not XRP as a payments bridge. Underlying statistics stay off-chain. DevNet versus mainnet is not named on the landing page; contemporaneous technical write-ups of the same paper describe the prototype on XRPL DevNet.
CPMI established the Cross-border Payments Interoperability and Extension (PIE) task force on 23 February 2023 as an industry advisory group for the G20 cross-border payments programme. A composition list dated 8 July 2024 names Rene Huijsen, Director of Payment Operations, Ripple, in the financial-infrastructures group (with SWIFT, Mastercard, CLS, CIPS, TCH and others), chaired by Ulrich Bindseil (ECB). Contemporaneous 9 August 2023 reporting matches that list. Ripple is not on the public 2025-onwards composition on bis.org.
Geographic basis: CPMI/BIS, Basel. An industry-committee seat is not assigned as Swiss or G20 use of XRP. · Activity: Switzerland
Uncertainty: A private-sector advisory seat is not a BIS contract, not a selection of Ripple Payments or XRPL as a G20 rail, and not XRP as a bridge or reserve asset. The 2024 PDF is no longer hosted at the original bis.org path; the Scribd copy and August 2023 press list are the naming sources. Current public membership starts 2025 and does not include Ripple.

23 February 2023: CPMI invited banks, non-bank payment service providers, market infrastructure providers and industry associations to nominate senior representatives to a newly established Cross-border Payments Interoperability and Extension (“PIE”) task force supporting the G20 cross-border payments programme. Focus: access to payment systems, extending operating hours, and interlinking systems including ISO 20022 and APIs. Members were to commit through at least end-2024. The release does not name Ripple.
Establishes the task force. Membership of any named firm is not in this invitation.

Under Financial infrastructures: “Rene Huijsen (Director of Payment Operations) Ripple,” alongside Buna, CIPS, CLS, EBA Clearing, Fnality, Iberpay, Mastercard, PAPSS, PayNet Malaysia, Payments Canada, RTGS Global, SWIFT, The Clearing House and Worldline.
Secondary host of a BIS composition PDF that is no longer at bis.org/cpmi/pietf/pietf_members.pdf (404 as of this review). Names Ripple as a 2024 member. A task-force seat is not a BIS commercial relationship and not XRP as a G20 settlement asset.

Finbold · published 2023-08-09 · checked 2026-09-09
9 August 2023 contemporaneous report that BIS announced membership of the CPMI PIE task force, listing Ripple under financial infrastructures and Rene Huijsen as Director of Payment Operations, with Bindseil as chair, alongside SWIFT, Mastercard, CLS, CIPS, TCH and others. Quotes BIS language that public–private engagement is a key element of the G20 cross-border payments programme.
Trade-press write-up of the August 2023 membership announcement. Corroborates the 2024 composition list. Still not a BIS implementation of Ripple Payments or XRP.

BIS page for the CPMI-led PIE task force. Terms of reference (from 2025): an industry task force of senior private-sector representatives providing practitioner advice on cross-border payment arrangements (ISO 20022, fast payments, APIs, settlement). Co-chairs listed as Chiara Scotti (Banca d’Italia) and Inge van Dijk (DNB). The public 2025-onwards member list (alphabetical by entity) includes SWIFT, Mastercard, CLS, Citi, HSBC, Mojaloop Foundation and others. Ripple is not named on this page.
Current public roster. Use this page to date-stamp that a 2023–2024 Ripple seat is not a current listing. Membership is nominative advice, not a BIS product using Ripple, XRPL or XRP.
Industry-task-force seat. Not a BIS commercial relationship and not XRP as a G20 settlement asset. Ripple is not on the 2025-onwards public composition.
Uncertainties and missing follow-up
Community claims that BIS ‘selected XRPL for the financial system’ or that Project Agorá is a Ripple project overstate this paper. Prior Ripple relationships of some Agorá participant banks are recorded on those banks’ own pages and do not make Agorá a Ripple programme.
PIE membership is nominative private-sector advice to CPMI. It is not a BIS or G20 decision to use Ripple, XRPL, or XRP.
X-Index (xindex.info) is an independent community research directory. v0.9.11 adds Aurum Equity Partners (Pleasanton) and Zoniqx for the announced $1B XRPL tokenized data-center fund, and the European Central Bank and World Economic Forum as mention-stage issuers of already-catalogued Documents. Not the Indian Aurum LLP. A WEF use-case example is not a WEF–Ripple partnership. Task-force co-members (SWIFT, CLS, NACHA) were not added as separate cards. v0.9.10 adds Documents from a user-supplied list: Federal Bank’s 2019 NSE Ripple intimation, Standard Chartered’s 2016 Ripple investment PDF, Breda et al.’s SSRN difference-in-differences of announced RippleNet adoption (not a bank filing), and academic papers on XRPL topology, patents, fiqh classification and consensus — labeled Academic, not institutional endorsement. A magazine reprint of the existing SG-FORGE EURCV page is not a second primary. Chinese how-to-buy XRP pages are not institutional. v0.9.9 adds Documents from a user-supplied PDF list: ECB 2015 virtual-currency analysis, Ripple’s 2021 House of Lords evidence, Palau PSC press, a World Bank CBDC energy note citing Ripple’s XRP table, and academic papers (Jani, Mokeeva/Novosibirsk lab cite, Firouzi, etc.) labeled Academic — not institutional endorsement. A 2018 student overview is not a bank customer. v0.9.8 adds Shariyah Review Bureau’s March 2022 Sharia Analysis of Ripple/XRP (alongside the existing XRP Compliant screen) and Ripple’s 2023–2024 seat on the BIS CPMI PIE task force — a historical industry-committee membership, not a current listing and not XRP as a G20 rail. v0.9.7 adds a Documents catalog of institutional and business pages that actually name Ripple, XRPL, or XRP — a caption or screenshot is not the source. Flags are headquarters plus sourced activity countries. A BRICS or OPEC mark is country membership, not a bloc partnership. A past announcement is not a current-day connection. Counts are documented organizations in this database, not exhaustive national adoption. Last updated 2026-09-10. Not affiliated with Ripple.
