Major Banks Launch Global Payments Steering Group
Ripple · published 2016-09-23 · checked 2026-09-09
Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Santander, UniCredit, Standard Chartered, Westpac Banking Corporation, and Royal Bank of Canada are the founding members of the Global Payments Steering Group. CIBC will also join as a new member. The group oversees Ripple payment transaction rules and standards. The release does not mention XRP.
Governance/standards group membership is not evidence of live XRP or even live xCurrent production at each bank. Santander has a separate One Pay FX record.
CoinDesk (citing AFR) quoted Westpac GM Rachel Slade in June 2015 on an early Ripple proof-of-concept in which staff made low-value international payments. iTnews later quoted Mike Baldwin: three nodes (Australia, New Zealand, Fiji) with IBM and Ripple, about 45 payments on the production system landing next day, after which the team won internal funding.
Geographic basis: Named nodes in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji. Not assigned as a live 2026 corridor in those countries. · Activity: Australia, New Zealand, Fiji
Uncertainty: 2015 PoC. Does not name XRP. Later commercial status of that corridor was not confirmed from a Westpac product page.

Australian Banks Westpac and ANZ Experiment With Ripple
CoinDesk · published 2015-06-09 · checked 2026-09-09
CoinDesk, citing The Australian Financial Review, reported that Westpac had begun a proof-of-concept with Ripple Labs in which employees were sending funds to two countries overseas. Rachel Slade, Westpac’s general manager of global transactional services, said the solution was faster than alternatives, providing same- or next-day payment for low-value overseas payments, and was consistent with AML/KYC requirements. ANZ was described as still in talks, not running a trial.
Reputable secondary report of named Westpac executive quotes. ANZ is talks-only in the same article and is not added from this source. 2015 PoC; not 2026 production.
How Westpac and the ASX are using the 'overhyped' blockchain
iTnews · published 2016-11-16 · checked 2026-09-09
Westpac Institutional Bank’s head of innovation and implementation Mike Baldwin said that in early 2015 Westpac trialled a Ripple-based solution for small overseas payments, setting up three nodes (Australia, New Zealand, Fiji) in partnership with IBM and Ripple, with financial-markets staff as market makers. The bank conducted around 45 payments on the production system, with cash consistently landing next day, then built a business case and won funding.
Named Westpac executive describing a completed 2015 PoC (~45 payments). Historical. Does not name XRP as the bridge asset. Later GPSG membership is a separate 2016 governance relationship.
ANZ was in talks only in the same 2015 coverage and is not recorded as a trial from those articles.
